TeploTie improves thermal efficiency of highly insulated cavity walls
MagmaTech Ltd has developed a range of thermally insulating composite wall ties "TeploTie". The ties replace standard stainless steel wall ties which act as thermal bridges in cavity walls. TeploTie improves the U value of walls by up to 10% (the effect is even greater in wide cavity / highly insulated walls) and thereby reduces heat loss and energy wastage. TeploTie is currently being used in its first UK projects, which are utilising the the... [more]
Cavity wall and loft insulation can vastly improve energy efficiency performance and make huge savings on energy bills
Of the 26 million properties in the UK, around nine million homes are without cavity wall insulation and 11 million homes without adequate loft insulation. But if everyone in the UK installed loft insulation up to 270mm thickness, the equivalent savings would pay the energy bills of 640,000 families in the UK. The carbon savings to be made by simply installing cavity wall and loft insulation are massive. If everyone in the UK installed loft in... [more]
Protection from carbon monoxide poisoning
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, tasteless, odourless gas produced whenever a fossil fuel is not burned efficiently. It can be emitted from inadequately maintained or badly fitted domestic heating appliances such as wall heaters, fires or boilers and can be fatal in high concentrations. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a common issue. The best way to protect yourself is to install an approved Carbon Monoxide detector or combined smoke and carbon m... [more]
Climaboard dry electrical heating system uses less energy than radiators
Modern electric appliances are able to produce zero carbon heat and hot water from zero carbon electricity. The recent energy white paper ‘Meeting the Energy Challenge’ demonstrates the importance of electric heating in cutting carbon emissions and improving energy security. Climaboard, an electrical skirting heating system introduced to the UK from its Italian inventors, Frog Buildings, is designed to take advantage of such advances in the p... [more]
Improving the energy efficiency of existing homes is a major challenge
Ian Pearson MP, Minister of State for Climate Change and the Environment said that improving the energy efficiency of existing homes is a major challenge and offered to meet with HHIC to discuss new ideas and views about how best to make the necessary progress in this sector. Speaking recently at HHIC's seminar "Building Energy Alliances", Mr Pearson said: “When you look at the challenge we have in retrofitting existing housing stock in the Un... [more]
