Modern electric appliances are able to produce zero carbon heat and hot water from zero carbon electricity. The recent energy white paper ‘Meeting the Energy Challenge’ demonstrates the importance of electric heating in cutting carbon emissions and improving energy security.

Climaboard, an electrical skirting heating system introduced to the UK from its Italian inventors, Frog Buildings, is designed to take advantage of such advances in the production of electricity.

The Climaboard dry electrical system runs very efficiently at 200W/meter, using about 25 to 30% less energy than radiators to heat a room to a comfortable level. The additional cost of the elements works out far less than the cost of an equivalent output boiler. The elements are warranted for two years but can be easily and inexpensively replaced in the unlikely event of a failure.

Climaboard® replaces ordinary skirting and with no floor slab to heat, it responds very quickly to changes in required temperature, needing less energy than under floor systems to reach the desired temperature. It takes advantage of one of the laws of physics known as the ‘Coanda Effect’ in which the tendency of moving fluid is to follow a nearby surface – in this case the wall.

By warming the inside of exterior walls, Climaboard provides an insulating layer of warm air that prevents cold air radiating into the room. Comfort is felt even at relatively low air temperature, making the system extremely cost-effective.

With its system of twin 15mm copper pipes connected to aluminium fins by means of close-fitting flanged joints, electric Climaboard delivers heat energy highly efficiently.

It is able to work efficiently with hot water produced by heat pumps or electric boilers, or even directly from electric resistance elements in buildings that cannot use “wet” systems. Its efficiency and rapid response make it the ideal choice for use with heat pumps which typically run at lower water temperatures.

Based on the use of electrical resistance elements installed into a special heating-grade aluminium skirting profile, Climaboard dry electrical systems are especially suited to situations where there is no mains gas or the building design and construction cannot incorporate wet systems.

Easy to install and measuring just 140 mm high by 30 mm wide, it attaches to walls in place of ordinary skirting, neatly hiding its active convector elements behind the front panel.

It is ideal for new and refurbished residential properties, as well as for commercial premises such as offices, shops, restaurants, nursing and care homes, and schools and nurseries. Available as standard in white, it can also be supplied to special order in an infinite variety of finishes to match the colour scheme of any environment using a sample or photo.
