Self fusing silicone tape creates enduring seal under extreme environmental conditions
(07/09/2007)
A highly advanced self fusing compression tape, which stops water leaks within a matter of seconds, has been released to the UK utility market.
LLFAź Compression Tape is the first product of its kind to satisfy the strict criteria of the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) and achieve industry approval. BS6920 tests on LLFAź have proven that it is safe for use in direct contact with drinking water up to 85°C (185°F).
LLFAź Compression Tape is a high tensile self fusing silicone tape which is used to create an enduring seal under extreme environmental conditions. LLFAź is specifically proven to be reliable within the -90°C to 260°C (500°F) temperature range.
Self amalgamating tapes have been on the market for many years. However this new generation product, LLFAź Compression Tape, is proved to be stronger, faster fusing, water tight, abrasion and tear resistant, an extremely good electrical insulator and easily applied, durable and resilient.
Experts have described LLFAź Compression Tape as a revolutionary product because it combines ultra fast self fusion with high tensile strength. It takes a lot of force to snap a piece of the tape and if it is stretched almost to breaking, then wrapped, the self fusion will maintain that stretch, resulting in a seal by compression.
Managing Director Bruce Hutt, of GTG Europe, said: It was within a few weeks of LLFAź gaining WRAS approval that many utility companies began trials using the tape for leak repairs. It is seen by many as a more cost efficient method of repairing leaks as firstly it can be done with the water still flowing and secondly it removes the risk of secondary damage associated with normal repair methods.
