Alternative methods to hand washing to protect against infection
(27/08/2007)
When households remain without clean running water for several days, alternative methods to traditional hand washing need to be deployed to protect against infection.
Advanced Formulations has received thousands of inquiries by many people affected by the recent floods. Many of these people were asking what they can do when there is no usable water to wash their hands.
As the UK is likely to be facing more severe flooding due to heavy rainfall, experts at the Health Protection Agency HPA are reminding people of the importance of good hand hygiene to prevent infection from contaminated water. Nigel Lightfood from HPA stated that “attention to hand hygiene has become very important” as floodwaters may have become contaminated with sewage which contains organisms and germs which can cause infections and gastro-enteritis.
