R Series Condensing Boilers from Atlantic save on oil, kerosene, natural gas or LPG fuels free RSS news feed from the Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning News Portal

Based on gross calorific value, conventional condensing boilers operate between 86% in mid-winter or when heating domestic hot water, and up to 96% in mild weather. With all the concern over energy conservation, boilers should be at least 92% efficient.

Atlantic 2000 have launched a new generation of condensing boilers using outside air for combustion air. As a result the whole annual space heating energy (and any other energy requirement) will be met by a boiler efficiency of greater than 92% and up to 99%. These boilers, each rated from 7kW to 535kW, are called the R Series New Generation Condensing Boilers.

This type of condensing is termed deep condensing and with the new generation condensing boiler it always takes place for all types of energy supply. A significant feature of this boiler is that it easily adapts to the different fuels available. It is therefore suitable for dual fuel firing and change of fuel in the future.

Any additional boiler costs will be offset by savings in fuel over a period of just 18 months to two years. After that time, the savings go on and on. In addition, the R Series condensing boilers flue gas temperatures are always below 50 degrees C and so low cost plastic flues can make major savings.

There are still misunderstandings about condensing and where it can be used. The fact is that, for conventional condensing boilers the necessary outdoor temperature conditions are met for around 60% of the heating season in the Greater London area and similar amounts elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

For the R Series new generation condensing boiler using outside air for combustion air, the whole annual energy requirement will be met by condensing. This will save up to 40% over conventional modern boilers, and up to 20% over conventional condensing boilers.

Two R22/150 (range 95.3kW to 153kW) New Generation Oil Condensing Boilers were selected by Busby Hall, near Stokesley, North Yorkshire for the owner, Mr David Marwood, by Heating Design Services Consulting Engineers, of York. The boilers were chosen to fit within the restrictions of an important listed building and this included off-loading and positioning by Atlantic 2000 within the restricted boiler space, plus the use of balanced flues to avoid impingement on the building structure. The complete space heating and domestic hot water system was carried out by Jaydee Heating Ltd of Morley and Dundee.

The Atlantic R Series New Generation condensing boiler range of six models was tested and approved in 2000 to the Boiler Efficiency Regulations 1993.
