Centraline by Honeywell networked HVAC automation system provides significant savings to Castlefield Hotel
(27/04/2007)
The Castlefield Hotel with its Y Club leisure centre in Manchester saw gas heating costs cut by 18% and electricity bills by 15% after a “Centraline by Honeywell” energy-efficient networked HVAC automation system was installed by Eclipse (Control Engineering) Ltd.
The savings equate to about £20k per annum for the complex, which comprises guest bedrooms, lounge bar, restaurant, sports hall, gym, dance studio, indoor running track and rugby fives courts.
The Centraline by Honeywell system has also proved labour saving. Instead of visiting plant rooms, staff can monitor HVAC plant and make changes using the versatile CentraLine by Honeywell workstation software, “Arena”, on a central, office-based PC. Arena is easy to use, being based on Internet Explorer. The conditions within individual rooms and zones can be changed with a few mouse clicks, making it quick and easy to react to bookings.
Plant control is provided by four CentraLine “Panther” controllers, designed specifically by Honeywell to minimise energy consumption and equipment wear, while maintaining a comfortable, healthy indoor environment.
“The Panther’s small size and the system generated wiring diagram helped ensure a speedy installation, so keeping system downtimes to a minimum,” said Steve Joyce of Eclipse.
The Centraline by Honeywell system employs the LONWORKS open network, so can be expanded and upgraded at any time in the future.
