ARGI calls for proper recognition of the Registered Gas Installer to ensure gas safety
(10/01/2007)
The Association of Registered Gas Installers (ARGI) have called for proper recognition of the Registered Gas Installer as the Frontline in the campaign for gas safety.
According to ARGI neither the Health & Safety Executive or CORGI have sent out any information to Registered Gas Installers concerning potential problems and the safety implications in respect of recent fatal CO incidents.
Tony Brunton, Chairman of ARGI, said "It's the competent, qualified and committed installer who goes out every day to service and maintain the consumer's appliances who is the key player in gas safety."
Referring to recent fatal CO poisoning incidents, the ARGI Chairman said: "Many months go by after an incident, months in which thousands more of the appliances concerned could be encountered by Registered Gas Installers, yet no one see's fit make those at the sharp end, aware of the situation."
"Here we are, a ready made resource qualified and competent to deal with most situations that arise, but never consulted about or included in any safety initiatives".
