Oventrop UK wins mechanical services valves supply contract for Cork's new international airport terminal

Oventrop UK has been awarded the mechanical services valves supply contract for Cork’s new international airport terminal building which has recently opened. All arrivals and departures now operate from the new 28,000m˛ state-of-the-art terminal.
Designed to cater for an expected 3 million passengers this year and with a capacity to expand and handle up to 5 million passengers a year in the future, the new terminal has 30 check-in desks, three incoming and two outgoing baggage belts.
The new Cork terminal is three times the size of the original facilities and provides a spacious and friendly environment for travellers. There are three entrances - one for departing passengers, one for arrivals and a combined centre entrance.
The terminal is equipped with LPHW and chilled systems feeding air handling units which are predominantly serving all areas of the building with warm and cool air. Consulting engineers for the project were Jacobs Engineering, Dublin.
There are 18 AHUs in the main building providing a mix of displacement, ventilation, VAV and return air systems. Units are provided with hot and chilled water controlled with by 2-port valves on the main coils. All the commissioning sets, hydronic balancing and isolating valves are of Oventrop supply.
A spokesman for L Lynch & Coy, Dublin, the mechanical services contractors for the project, said that there were some difficulties with the original valve supplier. As a result they contacted Oventrop as an alternative, who arranged fast deliveries from the UK and Germany to alleviate the problem. “It was one of the best decisions we made on the project” he added.
