Anti-scald mixing valves make bath time safer
(06/10/2006)
The under 5s and elderly are most at risk from hot water, and there are 20 deaths and 570 serious injuries caused by bath time scalding each year.
An anti-scald mixing valve can make bath time safer. An anti-scald mixing valve is a device that blends together hot and cold water, to fill a bath to just the right temperature. The valves can be fitted out of sight behind a bath panel, or as part of a new tap. A thermostatically filled bath can mean that the water is at the right temperature for you to climb straight in.
Installers are finding that there is an increased demand from customers for stable, controllable temperature. They’re also discovering the opportunity to increase their margins on bathroom supply and fit with the inclusion of an anti-scald device.
Cynthia Fisher, Inta’s Commercial Director said “There’s no doubt that anti-scald valves can save lives and a whole lot of misery and disfigurement. Now is the right time for installers to be offering anti-scald valves as part of a new bathroom installation. The stand alone valves are really good value, and the built in ones comparable with other good quality brassware, so safety doesn’t come at a premium and there’s always the added convenience.”
Intatec has a whole range of anti-scald taps, valves and showers, and can advise on all aspects of specification and installation. To put that information straight into the hands of merchants and fitters, Inta have produced an easy to understand booklet, ‘Everything you need to know about anti-scald’, which is available free through plumbers merchants right across the UK.
