Wavin upgrades its universal inspection chamber shaft
(10/06/2010)
Wavin has introduced an upgraded version of its universal inspection chamber shaft to supersede the existing 450mm diameter polypropylene shaft for use with its OSMA Universal Inspection Chamber Bases – part of the extensive OsmaDrain range.
The new shaft design has been enhanced in two ways, both of which bring practical time-saving benefits for installation and thereby help reduce costs.
Previously, the shaft required on-site application of mastic beading to create a watertight joint during chamber assembly. Now, the new shaft incorporates an integral co-moulded ring seal for push-fit assembly to create a reliable joint more easily and faster.
The length of the shaft has also been increased from 230mm to 305mm. This means that fewer shaft sections are needed to achieve the maximum chamber depth of 1.2m, and so the number of joints to be made is also reduced. Importantly for Water & Sewerage Companies, and for their contractors, when installed as part of a complete Universal Inspection Chamber assembly, the new shaft satisfies the requirements of BS EN 7158.
George Gray from Wavin commented: “The previous shaft was already regarded as best-in-class, but the new design adds to that by bringing in extra benefits for the installers.
Installation time for our Universal Inspection Chambers just got shorter, while it’s easier to create the reliable watertight joints that are essential for the integrity of buried drainage systems. That’s good for both costs and confidence – and will be welcomed by all stakeholders in the projects concerned.”
The new shaft is suitable for any of the extensive range of OSMA 450mm Universal Inspection Chamber Bases for installation as part of both OsmaDrain and OSMA UltraRib drainage systems.
