Londoners buy more home appliance spare parts than in any other region in the UK
(25/02/2010)
The recession has led to more Brits having a go at fixing home appliances themselves. The cost savings compared with replacing the appliance or calling out a repair company can typically run into hundreds of pounds. Cookers and washing machines are the appliances that are fixed most often, with oven elements and door seals the most frequently replaced parts.
According to spare parts retailer eSpares, residents of London bought more home appliance spare parts per person than any other region in the UK in the last year. The company has seen sales to Londoners increase faster than any other region in the UK.
Londoners are almost twice as likely as the people of Northern Ireland to buy spares and fix it themselves. Other regions that are fixing their appliances are Scotland and the North West of England. But it’s Londoners who are truly leading the way with more than 20% more spares per head than the next best region.
Matthew Henton, Marketing Director at eSpares said “We supplied over 700,000 spare parts last year – 40% more than the year before. But we were surprised to find such a wide regional difference. Well done to Londoners for embracing the “fix it yourself” culture so wholeheartedly.”
