Tadpole can reduce energy consumption by 15%

Cutting energy consumption is a simple step to lower household bills and a smaller carbon footprint. ‘Tagging on a Tadpole’ between the boiler and pump of a central heating system is one practical solution on both counts, as revealed in a new report.
The small Tadpole unit works on the simplest of principles and can be fitted to most gas, electric or oil central heating systems. By removing dissolved air in central heating systems, the Tadpole enables the water to reach higher temperatures much faster and using much less energy.
Recording the effects of the Tadpole on the energy required to run a typical gas central heating system over a 4-week period, the results showed the device reduced the energy supplied to the central heating system by approximately 15% for a given heat demand. The results also showed a fall of around 20% in both gas and electric consumption with the Tadpole at the peak of its performance during the test period.
In response to the results, Inventor of the Tadpole, Stan Whetstone commented, “Having already recorded greater energy savings on traditional ‘open vent’ heating systems over the last year, these latest results are particularly exciting as they confirm just how effective the Tadpole can also be with combi boiler systems, suggesting a reduction of at least 15% would be a realistic improvement consumers are likely to see.”
Based on the £700 average annual household bill for ‘primary heating and hot water’, as provided by National Energy Action, a reduction in energy consumption of 15% could amount to a saving of over £100 per year. Similarly, an improvement in energy efficiency by 15% could reduce CO2 emissions by half a tonne per household per year, based on figures supplied by OFGEM and the Centre for Sustainable Development.
