BSI and the Kitemark have a long history. In 1903 the need to indicate to buyers that goods were ‘up to standard’ led directly to the creation of the British Standard Mark, which became known as the Kitemark. This was followed up in 1931, with a renaming of the organisation as the British Standards Institution or BSI.
