Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM underfloor heating system chosen for one of the UK’s greenest self-build projects

Known as The Moonstone Project, the unique multi-level six-bedroom house, which includes an indoor swimming pool, gym, cinema and games room, is a model of eco-efficiency. The house in The Moonstone Project has a U value of 0.07, giving it a passivhaus rating. This means that in theory, the building is so well insulated that the heat given off by the people inside would be enough to heat it. The house has, on average, around 0.5 metres of insulation incorporated within its walls, floors and roof. John Croft has installed Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM under all 1,470 square metres of flooring at his luxury eco-house in the Cotswolds. BEKOTEC-THERM underfloor heating system reduces tiles cracking, buckling and debonding problems

Many tilers have become wary of fixing over conventional heated screeds because of problems they’ve experienced in the past with tiles cracking, buckling and debonding, caused by the screed and ceramics expanding and contracting at different rates, due to their different heat expansion coefficients during temperature changes. The Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM underfloor heating system has been named The Tile Association’s Best New Innovation at the industry’s annual awards ceremony. TTA’s Best New Innovation category is one of the industry’s leading “Oscars,” and is awarded for innovation in solving a tiling problem.
